Vol. 1: 692 pp. with 690 illustrations, 663 in color. Vol. 2: 879 pp. with 780 color images. This magnificent 2-volume set is lavishly illustrated. Volume 1 contains Paleolithic artifacts of the 22nd millenium B.C. to Roman portrait busts, Byzantine coins, Chinese prints, and 19th-century Tibetan art. Volume 2, drawn from the departments of Western European Art and Russian Art and Culture, presents an impressive array of paintings, sculptures, icons, drawings, and prints spanning the 13th to the 20th centuries. You will likely spend hours with this set and not want to put it down! A treasure trove.
