About This Item
[Los Angeles?]: Great Leap Inc, 1988. Ephemera. 1 folder (approx. 14 items). 12 x 9 in. Includes promotional brochures for Great Leap in general and Talk Story in particular, a typed synopsis of Talk Story, photocopies of press reviews, and biographies of staff. The folder is a little creased and edge worn, but the contents are Very Good. Great Leap was a performance ensemble that used music and theater to provide "a cultural voice for Asian Americans." This portfolio advertised "Talk Story," a 9-part musical performance whose vignettes include "an old Mestizo Pilipino pioneer who tells the poignant story of his journey from his beloved homeland," "an immigrant family's dilemma of survival...comically sliced while capturing their busy day in their neighborhood stores," "a Japanese woman sing[ing] the touching story of growing up in an internment camp," and "the crazy predicaments of a third generation girl as she shuttles between the values of her family's culture and the many influences of the world around her." Great Leap was founded by Nobuko Miyamoto and Jose de Vega.
