UK,8vo wraps,paperback,2nd imp [This edn first printed 1971,the original 1st edn was 1962.] VG+.No owner inscrptn.Colour wraps with b/w photograph on upper wrap which has slight creasing to front lower corner.Fore-edges slightly aged as usual/normal; contents bright,tight and clean.UK,8vo wraps,200pp includes b/w line illus+maps; 32pp b/w photographs,bibliography and an index. Also included some railway ephemera,a ticket and 2 paper compartment window destination banners. None of the old railway companies had a more diverse,colourful or intriguing beginning than the Great Western.The events of the early years,woven into a continuous narrative by Nock,show how,against an exciting,sometimes sordid,background GWR's fine engineering traditions were built up.This part of the story ends in 1897 with the building of a Royal train,with which the GWR of the 19thC touched the very pinnacle of elegance.See also rjap1585.
