London: Weidenfeld & Nicolson, N.d. [1979]. Large 8vo, pp. 231. Original tan boards, lettered in gilt on spine. A fine copy in a near fine dustwrapper, slight darkening to top edge and with a little wear to spine ends. 32 pp. photographic plates. First edition, INSCRIBED BY LORD ZUCKERMAN: 'Inscribed for Bob Holness / for / Bob Holness / by / Solly Zuckerman. Solly Zuckerman [1904-1993] began his scientific career at the London Zoological Society in 1928; when he inscribed this book in 1979 he was the Society's President. In between he was a war hero, working on myriad research projects, designing the Zuckerman helmet for the protection of civilians, and devising the plan which would disrupt German supply lines prior to the Normandy landings.
