About This Item
Hardbound, pale green buckram cloth boards with blue and orange decorative front board bound in Gibraltar Library Binding (GLB logo on rear board). Boards are in very nice condition with only the very slightest wear at the top and bottom of the back strip. Boards show no other wear or blemishes and corners are sharp with the tiniest touch of wear at each corner. Spine is straight with no cracking to the endpapers. Text block is solid with all pages firmly attached to the stitched binding. While the book has a library binding it is NOT an ex-library book. There is a previous owner name and date on the front endpaper and a small pink stamp of a school on the blank page before the title page. Beautiful full page and intext block illustrations with purple and green accents. All interior pages are clean with no tears, cracks, or other previous owner marks except where noted. Unpaginated but approximately 42 pages
Emma Lillian Brock (1886 – 1974) was an American children's author and illustrator of over 30 children's books. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1908 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, then attended the Minneapolis School of Fine Arts and the Art Students League of New York. From about 1909 through at the mid-19-teens, Brock paid her way through art schools by working as a librarian in the Minneapolis and New York public library systems. Brock's professional debut was in 1922 when she illustrated Clara Whitehill Hunt's adaptation of R.H. Horne's "Memoirs of a London Doll" but she then wrote and published her first book "Runaway Sardine" in 1929. "The Greedy Goat" was her third book published in 1931, with her last book published in 1967.
Gibraltar Library Binding (GLB) Editions are distinguished from Trade Editions by 1) a sturdy, stitched binding; 2) most GLB's have a smooth semi-gloss finish and 3) the GLB logo on the rear cover of a silhouette elephant standing on a stack of books in an oval. While more expensive, libraries would choose to purchase the Gibraltar Library Binding as it would hold up to the rigors of heavy use, but not all GLB books now found in the secondary market were previous library books as teachers or librarians would purchase them to use as school prizes or gifts.
