About This Item

London: Rex Collings, 1975. Fine in very good plus jacket.. First edition, first printing, of this retelling of GAWAIN AND THE GREEN KNIGHT primarily through the perspective of a woman, the witch Vivian. THE GREEN KNIGHT adapts the classic tale of the Arthurian cycle with a special emphasis on the interior world of the three main characters: Vivian (the granddaughter of Nimue and Merlin), Gawain, and Melior (a student of Merlin). This was Chapman's first book - published when she was 77 - and the first work in her Arthurian trilogy that prioritized female perspectives in the chivalric mythos. 7.75'' x 5''. Original olive green textured paper boards, gilt-lettered spine. In original unclipped (£2.50) green pictorial dust jacket. [6], 148 pages. Light wear to extremities of jacket, with faint rubbing to rear panel.
