Philadelphia: Claxton, Remsen & Haffelfinger, 1870. Later edition. Hardcover. Very good. 12mo. Original green cloth binding with gilt lettering and decorations on spine. Brown coated endpapers. vi, 11-314pp plus 8 plates inserted including frontispiece. Henry Leland (1828 - 1868) was a journalist who regularly contributed pieces to the Knickerbocker magazine in New York and other periodicals. He first published these humorous sketches in 1856 and they remained popular enough that they were published in 1870 in a subsequent edition. An good example of mid-19th century popular humor. With Numerous Illustrations. Overall, a near fine copy. Very light wear to the extremities and light foxing to blank leaves by endpapers. Still a very nice copy.
