About This Item
First edition, first printing. Oversize magazine. Grist Magazine originated from Lawrence, Kansas with quite a crew behind it including the poet Charles Plymell, S. Clay Wilson, and the magazine's editor John Fowler. Many of the early illustrations of the notorious S. Clay Wilson drawings appeared for the first time in this magazine. Wilson along with others like R. Crumb was an influential pioneer in the underground Comix Movement of the 1960s. With its contributors including Barbara Moraff - two poems, Ronald Silliman, Larry Eigner with three poems, Allen Ginsberg, Ted Berrigan's Eulogy to Frank O'Hara with O'Hara's two poems, Gerald Malanga, d. a. levy with an untitled poem, Charles Bukwoski two poems, and S. Clay Wilson is here as "Steve" Wilson with a drawing. Also Tuli Kupferberg with two poems, and so is Ken Irby. Reviews and art work, photography and general mayhem. Very good tall side stapled wraps with the usual age tone. Also in the opening pages with an announcement of the marriage of Mary Beach's daughter :Pamela to Mr. Charles Plymell both of San Francisco. The couple were married in September in Reno, Nevada and will reside in San Francisco - this is all c. 1966. In memoriam to Frank O'Hara 1926-1966. We require payment by Paypal, thank you.
