About This Item

Moscow / New York: Foreign Languages Publishing House / International Publishers, 1950. A collection of 9 propaganda pamphlets related to the "New Soviet Woman," a concept developed under Stalin which touted equality between the sexes, but that ultimately forced Soviet women into service to state in their roles as industrial workers (production) and mothers (reproduction). Four of the pamphlets were published as part of "Equality of Women in the U.S.S.R.," a seminar for representatives of the member countries of the commission on the status of women, U.N. Economic and Social Council, and for representatives of non-governmental bodies. Two of the pamphlets with linen tape along the spine, the others (save one) show evidence of tape removal, so they may have been bound together at one time (they came to us in this state). Included are:

Nurina, F. (introduction). The Soviet Law on Marriage: Full Text of the Code of Laws on Marriage and Divorce, the Family and Guardianship. Moscow: Co-operative Publishing Society of Foreign Workers in the USSR, 1932. Stapled wrappers, 44 p.

Love - Family Life - Career: Behind the Soviet Law Limiting Abortions and Increasing Aid to Mothers. New York: The Woman Today Publishing Company, [1938]. Stapled wrappers, 14 p. A few lines to margins.
