First Edition. 8vo, publisher's original brown cloth, lettered on the spine in gilt, in the original dustjacket. 253 pp. A fine copy with just a touch of spotting to the top edge and a few very small and unobstrusive markings in ink on the fly and title-page, the dustjacket also fine but for some shelf rubbing to the rear panel and a small ink marking to a line in the text on the front flap. FIRST EDITION OF ONE OF THE AUTHOR'S MOST COMPLEX BOOKS AND CERTAINLY HIS MOST SUSPENSEFUL. Modeled after the author's native Trinidad, it is a tense, violent and tragic look at a postcolonial British dominated Island.
