Mexico: Barcelona (Espana), 1899. First Edition. Thick Quarto. 776 pages, xlvi, indice general. 3 large colored folding maps with the one on the details of downtown Mexico City especially brilliant, each have tape repairs but none of the original is missing. Volume I dealing with Mexico City in the period where the technology and innovation exploded at the height of the Porfiriato era. After the first 79 pages of the political history, there is an important section on the intellectual history showings its arts, museums, printing and the university. Hundreds of black and white photos of businesses and factories, hospitals, railways, trains. A very handsome copy bound in red cloth lettered and decorated in black and gilt, spine lettering in gilt and decorated in black [Palau 91496].
