Description:
Charles Scriber's Son, 1944. Hardcover. Acceptable. Orange cloth boards are warped, with upper corners of boards turning upwards. Spine is cocked. NO DJ. Cloth covering is faded, more so on spine. Corners of boards are bumped, bending inward and worn. Bumped spine at bottom and top which has wearing with threads fraying. The end paper and free end papers are foxed and very browned. All pages are very yellowed and fragile with a thumb-sized rip on page 276. Deckle edges. Text block really browned. Back strip is separated from block but all leaves are still bound together and are not falling out. Book is readable, but one would need to be very careful while turning pages. The author was an Academy Award winning screenwriter, director, producer, playwright, journalist, activist and novelist. Ghost-writer on Marilyn Monroe's autobiography. Neat book by author with deep Hollywood ties.

Description:
New York: Scribner’s, 1944. Later printing; some staining; good in dust jacket. An exceptional association, inscribed by the author “To Nunnally Johnson. ‘co-chairman’ Ben Hecht.” Hecht and Johnson accounted for much of the best writing in Hollywood, co-writing one episode in “O. Henry’s Full House,” and Johnson was married at the home of Hecht’s great friend and collaborator Charles MacArthur (and his wife, Helen Hayes). Hecht passionately attacked anti-Semitism, and his vocal, steadfast support for Israel’s independence from Great Britain came at great personal cost, leading to his boycotting by that nation.
