Paris: L. Turgis & Fils, Editeurs, 55, rue St. Placide, [c.1890].. FIRST EDITIONS. 6 parts bound in one. Oblong 8vo. (15.5 x 23.5 cm). Original red cloth gilt, gold patterned endpapers. 2 advertisements for the albums d'enluminure loosely tipped in. Letterpress title-page, 102 chromolithographed plates including ornamental title and five sub title-pages, nearly all of which heightened in gold. Bookseller's label pasted onto verso of f.f.e.p. Some light wear to extremities, minimal light spotting, generally an excellent copy. Together 6 albums bound as one, each album comprising a chromolithographed title-page and 16 chromolithographed plates. Each album details examples of ornamentation from antiquity up until the 18th century. The majority of the plates cover the art of medieval illumination, however the first album is dedicated to antiquity and includes plates on ancient Egyptian, Assyrian, Greek, Greco-Roman, Pompeian, Byzantine ornamentation, and the final album covers the period of Louis XVI.
