About This Item

N. P.: Privately printed, 1933., 1933. First edition. First edition. 9" x 6" pictorial wrappers that unfolds to a tri-fold with six 9" x 6" panels. The front cover panel has pictures of "Texas Jack" and "Broncho John" (taken in 1880), and signed in ink by "Texas Jack" and Broncho John." The rear cover panel show pictures of "Wild Bill" James Butler Hickok, "Buffalo Bill" Wm. F. Cody, and a picture of "The Original Texas Jack." Also includes the statement: "Photograph-reproductions are from original photographs owned by 'Texas Jack' and 'Broncho John' Sullivan." The remaining four panels contain an introduction to "Texas Jack," a biographical sketch of "Broncho John" Sullivan, "Broncho Reverse" performed with a Single Action 44-40 by "Broncho John" Sullivan's father, "Broncho Johns" Belt-Draw, and "Hammer-Fanning Hip-Shot," performed by "Broncho John" Sullivan. "Texas Jack" Sullivan was "Broncho John" Sullivan's son and a friend of Bat Masterson. "Texas Jack" claimed that Masterson taught him his gun skills. "Broncho John" had a Wild West show in 1906. In Herd there are four entries (2197-2200) by "Broncho John," all rare little pamphlets of which Adams says: "These ephemeral little tracts were originally intended to be the basis of a larger work never written." "GUN PLAY" is not cited in either Herd or Six Guns. Rare and in very good condition.
