About This Item
Blue Mounds, Wisconsin: Artist Direct, 1953. LP Record in Jacket. Very Good/Good. 12.25" x 12.25. This is Album IV of Gunnar Johansen's masterful traversal of Busoni's complete works for piano solo. REPERTOIRE: [1] An die Jugend (1909) is a set of 12 pieces reflecting Busoni's new (avant-garde for the time) creative thinking. [2] Fantasia Contrappuntistica (1910, Italian edition - a stunningly profound performance here) represents the culmination of Busoni's dedication to the music of J.S. Bach. It is truly a monumental piano work. The album contains an informative insert regarding the repertoire of Albums III, IV, and V. CONDITION: The LP - a living room recording, as are all of Johansen's recordings - is definitely not "high fidelity", and there is general light surface noise throughout, but without intrusive pops, skips, or snags. Its Good Plus jacket is solid, unmarked, and uncreased, with moderate edge- and corner-wear, tiny chips at the spine ends, and a tape-attached title label on the previously blank spine edge. This quite scarce LP is now in a new audiophile inner sleeve (replacing the plain original) and the entire album is nestled in a strong mylar outer sleeve. It will be cleaned again before being securely packed and promptly shipped, domestically (USA) and internationally.
