Map and 21 b.&w. photo illus. Sir John Thompson was born in Halifax, N.S. in 1844 and appointed Premier of N.S. in May of 1882 but his party was defeated in July of the same year. Later that year he was elevated to the Supreme Court of N.S. and in 1885 he was elected to the House of Commons of Canada representing Antigonish County. He then was appointed Minister of Justice and Attorney General in the MacDonald Cabinet. He became Canada's fourth Prime Minister in 1892 and held that office until he died at Windsor Castle in 1894.
