London, Reeves & Turner, 1896. Hard Cover. xliv, 302 p., folding plate, 26 cm. First edition was 1863. "Illustrated with revised tables of annual date letters employed in the assay offices of England, Scotland and Ireland. To which is now added A History of L'Orfèvrerie Française." Chaffers was the first to compile biographical information on British goldsmiths and to order the information about hall marks. There is a 30-page "introductory essay" by Christopher Markham. Spine top & bottom worn, not shaken but loose in binding from extended use of this most useful work/no dj; good. Stock#101670.
