Sacramento: William Halley, 1878 First edition, first issue. 16mo. 84pp. Title page illustration. Brown cloth, gilt lettering on front cover, blind rules. Contemporary owner's name on endpaper. Spine a bit faded, but a lovely, tight, fine copy. This little work was intended as a hand-book and companion for visitors to the State capitol, as well as a useful guide for state officers, et al. Today, it is very scarce, especially in this condition. Includes biographical sketches of the State officers, executive officers, judges, State Board of Education, etc. Also covers members of the Senate, hold-over Senators, members of the Assembly, nativity of Senators and Assemblymen, occupations of same, various committees, telegraph offices, salaries of State officers, districts and district Judges, the vote on the upcoming Constitutional Convention, and much more. This comprehensive little work also includes State officers of Nevada and Oregon. The compiler and publisher (William Halley) readily states that all may change by the forthcoming Constitutional Convention (1879). Approximately twelve institutional copies located by OCLC..

The Argonaut was a founding member of the Antiquarian Booksellers\' Association of America and has been a member in good standing ever since.
