Publisher's binding of green sand grained cloth with elaborate decoration in gilt on spine and front and in blind on rear; all edges gilt. The author was a novelist and journalist; her particular field of interest was Wedgwood pottery.Contemporary (1862) gift inscription on half-title page. Rear inner hinge cracked. Very good indeed. An impressive example of mid-Victorian decorated cloth.
