About This Item

[Kyoto 1934], Uchida Hanga. Deluxe large color woodblock print, sheet size: 27.5 x 41.5, print size: 25.5 x 38 cm.,red Hanko chop/seal] & publisher's black seal, couple pale small brown spots, else very clean excellent. FIRST & ONLY EDITION . *** *** *** . . . A STUNNING COLOR IKEBANA WOODBLOCK PRINT . . . DEPICTING A FLOWER BASKET & PORCELAIN VASE . . . WITH DELICATE WHITE CHINESE MAGNOLIA BLOSSOMS . . This lovely work, shows a red porcelain vase resting in its wooden stand, with a sprig of Chinese magnolias. To the left is a small bamboo basket, with a very natural-like arrangement of white apple blossoms, grasses and a single green fruit with an additional orchid-like flower. This Ikebana is truly a classic. . Shin-hanga prints of Ikebana show the Zen art of ancient composition and living flower arrangement. Stunning and superb work. . The Zen-art of Ikebana continues today to be one of the most popular arts followed by both men and women in Japan. Most Japanese homes and companies have a welcoming flower arrangement in the guest room. . *** ARTIST & PUBLISHER'S HANKO: This work is nicely sealed in cinnabar red with the artist's Hanko [seal/chop]. Below that is a black octagon publisher's seal reading: "Han Moto Uchida" or "Original Woodblock Print from the Uchida studio." . *** NOTES FROM THE PUBLISHER: Originally this print came with a folding mat, that had an Uchida title note: FLOWER CART IN AUTUMN," as his catalog number I-91. Although we do not have it, it is interesting to record whatever useful background data we could turn up. . We have a copy of an Uchida essay about the Japanese woodblock prints he published. We post a photo of this as illus01.jpg to our website. This essay may also have been published in his catalog of Shing-Hanga.. . In that essay, at the bottom of paragraph 4 he states about the various artists works he published: "...Kin'u Takeshita...are the leading contemporary artists of the present Japan." Although there is no date, it is probably from about 1930-1935. . *** CONDITION: The work is in excellent condition, clean, condition, the paper is mostly bright without the usual 'toning.' There are a couple of pale brownish spots near the right upper side of the basket, this does not detract from the overall clean and bright condition. . *** REFERENCES: Portland Art Museum: UCHIDA ART CO. LTD., Kyoto: portlandartmuseum.us/mwebcgi/mweb.exe?request=record; id=19502;type=701 * Several other images of Kin'u's color woodblock prints are posted at Google. . *** Color scans of this & most other items are posted to our website. . * .
