About This Item

282+[1 ad] pages with diagrams and tables. Octavo (8 1/4" x 5 3/4") bound in original publisher's green cloth with gilt lettering to spine and cover. First edition. Rolf Schwarz was a German chess player and chess author. He wrote in about forty years from 1951 over thirty opening books . He was one of the best-known German chess authors. His work as a chess author Black began in 1950, when he reported on behalf of the German Sports Committee of the GDR from the GDR championship in Sömmerda . The following year, the Sportverlag published in the series "Sammelbücherei für Körperkultur" his first opening book, a monograph on the French defense . In 1953, together with Hans Platz, he had a 540-page volume on the Sicilian Defense followed. In 1958 he began working with Kurt Rattmann , where he wrote a total of 22 opening books in the series "Handbook of Chess Openings" until the mid-1980s. In this (after the uniform designed binding so-called) "green row" was the volume published in 1960 to the little-played Bird opening the biggest sales success. In 1997, this work was reprinted by Manuel Fruth (but without the green cover). Condition: Corners gently bumped, spine sunned else a very good copy.
