About This Item

Morris Jeppson, Weapons Officer of the Enola Gay, the plane that dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, he was the last person to touch the bomb when he armed it on the plane. 11" x 8 1/2" photo of Hiroshima after the devastation of the atomic bomb. All that stands is the Atomic dome in the background and lots of rubble. Inscribed with a historical note by Enola Gay Weapons Officer Morris Jeppson: "The destruction in Hiroshima was comparable with effects from previous bombing raids by hundreds of B29s. What was not known or seen before was the unexpected radiation effect. Actually there are two - primary high energy x-rays and gamma rays at the time of the explosion. This burned people and combustible materials - limited to a range of thousands of feet. The second radiation effect is from long life radioactive by-products of the fission of the U235 explosive. Morris Jeppson -Weapon Test Officer -Enola Gay Mission- Hiroshima 6 Aug. 1945". Excellent condition.
