Edge and corner wear; lightly scuffed and scratched; some shelf wear; foxing; small piece missing from the base of the spine of the wrapper; former owner's name is written in ink on the front of the wrapper; overall a nice clean and collectible used vintage side sewn periodical! Very very rare and hard-to-find vintage mid 19th century periodical! White wrapper with black and white illustration and lettering. 49 very clean unmarked and uncreased historical and informative pages nicely enhanced by black and white and color illustrations. Extremely scarce and collectible! (Vol. III, No. 1, January, 1856) Wonderfully well-preserved for its 160+ year age! "The frontispiece of this volume represents one of the most impressive scenes in Biblical history. Solomon, anointed king and endowed with divine wisdom, occupies the chair of state in the royal court, for the exercise of the highest judicial authority of his kingdom. The crown rests gently on his head, and a wand, the symbol of power, is in his right hand............" ------- from The Wise Expedient. (Vol. III, No. 1, January, 1856).. First Edition.
