About This Item
Santa Monica, California: Clover Park Press, 1994. First Edition [no number line; presumed First Printing]. Cloth. Near Fine/Fine. Photos, map. PRESENTATION by the Author to "Pat" [who may be Pat Pollock, one of her brave desert companions], 8vo, blue cloth with gold lettering on spine, Introduction by Sargant Shriver, Head of the Peace Corps, archival polyester-protected pictorial dust jacket (unclipped) with painting of the ntrepid women who crossed the Sahara, illustrated with B&W map and a few illustrations, sand-colored endpapers, 289 pages. Near Fine only because of the small red stamp of a Memorial Library in LIBERIA--where the Companions once worked--at the bottom of the title page and table of contents. [We find the stamp a plus but are obligated to downgrade Very Fine to Near Fine.] Otherwise, it's a SUPERIOR COPY: tight, bright, and clean with a Very meaningful INSCRIPTION on the front free endpaper.

Remarkable and very well written, often breathtaking retrospective narrative by an intrepid woman formerly in the Peace Corps, who managed with other brave female Corps' workers to cross safely (!) from Liberia over thousands of miles through the dangerous Sahara desert.

Sir Richard Burton. Charles Doughty, and Charles Wellington Furlong would, I believe, All have been highly impressed. Consider: Is there any Woman or Man who would do so?... or allow their daughter to travel--with other young women--through the Sahara? Laudatory Intro by Sergeant Shriver.
