Kingsley Martin (1897 1969), a journalist, edited the New Statesman from 1930 to 1960. J.P. Mayer and Kingsley Martin had a close association. Mayer (1903 1992), Professor Emeritus at Reading University and author of books on De Tocqueville, Max Weber and French political thought. He fled to England in 1936 having been a leading figure in the anti-Nazi movement in Germany. He then worked for Britain in the Ministry of Economic Warfare. He was active in politics and served as the chairman of the British Labour Party during 19451946, and was a professor at the London School of Economics from 1926 to 1950. Martin's description of Laski was as follows: 'He was still in his late twenties and looked like a schoolboy. His lectures on the history of political ideas were brilliant, eloquent, and delivered without a note; he often referred to current controversies, even when the subject was Hobbes's theory of sovereignty.' Spanish text. A very good copy.
