With selections "from the early Romances, the Renaissance, the drama of the Golden Age, the Romantics, and the exponents of Modernismo and Post Modernismo," the editor presents "a careful and representative selection which has been drawn from the whole field of Spanish poetry from the 12th Century to the present day." The editor contributes a long introduction, "written in English, tracing the development of the various metrical forms through the centuries."
