1917 hardcover as pictured. A scholarly examination of the claims of Frederick Cook and Robert Peary to have reached the north pole. This is an ex-library book with typical markings. Stamped "Compliments of the Author" and "Thomas F. Hall, 220 Grain Exchange, Omaha, Nebr." on FFEP. Book jacket synopsis is pasted inside front cover. Binding is firm. Red cloth boards with gold stamping are rubbed and soiled with some edge wear. Front and rear hinges are cracked. Text is lightly tanned but generally clean and unmarked. A few pages are mottled. The lower corners of several pages are folded and/or chipped. None of the defects affects readability. Includes a number of fold out maps and illustrations with a removable map of the polar regions in a pocket attached to the rear board. No dust jacket.
