Jochem. 5 volumes, each with a brief textual introduction (6, 3, 4, 4, 4 pp., respectively) prefacing a presentation of 54 total plates across the five booklets showing designs for five different private residences, each of which are excellent examples of the architectural applications of the Jugendstil style, including elevations, cross-sections, floor plans, and interior views of fine rooms decorated in the same style. Some extremely minor toning, overall excellent condition. Square 8vo. Original wrpps., volumes housed together in original boards portfolio with gilt title stamped to cover. Some fading to cover, minor wear and abrasions especially along edges. Stuttgart (Julius Hoffmann) 1905. Not much is known about the life and career of Friedrich Wilhelm Jochem (1881-1945), but he was an architect active in the areas of Kiel, Dresden, Hanover, Darmstadt, and Pforzheim. After attending the Mainz School of Applied Arts, he became a student of the well-known Joseph Maria Olbrich, and worked for him until 1903, where he contributed significantly to the preparation of the 1901 exhibition "Ein Dokument Deutscher Kunst". Jochem then began to work more independently as an architect, as well as a teacher at various schools including schools in Kiel, Pforzheim, and Hanover. An active member of the Deutscher Werkbund, Jochem worked primarily in the Jungendstil style. Scarce; as of March 2020, WorldCat locates only four copies of this work in North American institutions.
