About This Item

The Beechhurst Press, New York, 1953. Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Jack Matthew (illustrator). 1st Edition. These wonder tales belong to the time when the great gods and the half gods have departed, but have left their potent spells and incantations for the use of their human descendants, They till of the boy with the magic arrow that flew always to his luck. Of the Little- People (Menahunies) who built the hero's war canoe for him in a single night, and of the Goblin folk, eaters of human flesh who lived on the sea bottom and came up on land only at night, since the sunlight is fatal to them. There is magic in these tales and should be enjoyed by all Kaimaina or Malahini. Having lived in Hawaii for many years, these are almost sacred stories to the local folks. Book is near fine, unmarked and a neat owners name and book store label ( Honolulu Book stores) on first free end paper. Aloha and Mahalo.
