About This Item

Boston, MA.: Little Brown & Co, 1998. First Edition, 2nd Printing . Soft cover. Very Good/None as Issued. Text/Near New. Softcover/VG; sound w/light edge wear. Slight lean to spine & slight wear to upper leading edges of front pages. Sequel to The Monkey Wrench Gang (1975 novel Smithsonian judged ribald, outrageous & scandalous), by naturalist Edward Abbey (1927 - 1989). in which ex-Green Beret & wilderness avenger gang member George Washington Hayduke, III, hunted by a posse, was left clinging to sheer rock. Some years have passed since cliffhanger Hayduke escaped with the aid of Fred Goodsell (or "Kemosabe", hero of Abbey's 1st novel, The Brave Cowboy). He is back fighting despoilers of Mother Earth. In this final, posthumourly published novel, Hayduke returns to the deserts of Utah and Arizona, and is joined by former gang members to sabotage the world's largest earth moving machine known as GEM or GOLIATH, and subdue a greed-ridden Mormon Bishop to save southwest America. Softcover/VG; sound w/light edge rubs & faint creading to upper front corner. Other re-sufacing characterss are those Abbey spent little time on in Monkey Wrench Gang such as Bishop Love, wives of Seldom Seen Smith and the FBI agents sent to curtail conservationists. Book published w/o final revision by Abbey, rendering it, perhaps, all the more a special reading. 308 pgs in 31 chapters..
