Some years have passed since cliffhanger Hayduke escaped with the aid of Fred Goodsell (or "Kemosabe", hero of Abbey's 1st novel, The Brave Cowboy). He is back fighting despoilers of Mother Earth. In this final, posthumourly published novel, Hayduke returns to the deserts of Utah and Arizona, and is joined by former gang members to sabotage the world's largest earth moving machine known as GEM or GOLIATH, and subdue a greed-ridden Mormon Bishop to save southwest America.
