About This Item
Scribner, 1996-06-03. Hardcover. Like New. Prompt shipment, with tracking. we ship in CLEAN SECURE NEW boxes 1.5 x 6.8 x 9.8 inches They call it an "Inspirational Guide," but the inspiration here percolates up through hard-core information about specific things parents can do to help their child heal from a serious accident or illness. Nancy Cain's four-year-old son Alex almost died of an E. coli bacterial infection, and his illness left him with a serious ongoing medical condition. In the clear voice of a survivor testifying, Cain demonstrates how vital parents are to their child's survival and recovery and gives solid advice on regaining control in emergency situations, throughout treatment, and on into the later period of recovery. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title. From Library Journal After four-year-old Alex Cain was stricken with a deadly bacterial infection, his survival was in doubt for several days. His mother has written this book to tell the story of the family's healing journey with Alex. In a very readable manner, it provides large doses of both inspiration and practical guidance to families with very sick children. While the parent of a sick child may not have the time or the energy to read this book from cover to cover, the table of contents highlights items of interest, e.g., financial considerations. Several chapters outline specific steps for parents to take regarding their child's care. The appendix provides a number of resources, including some Internet addresses, for disease-specific groups. While the biggest audience for this book will probably be the well-educated lay reader, those involved with parents of very ill children, e.g., chaplains and hospital social workers, will also find this a useful tool. Recommended for consumer health/patient information collections.
