Clean green tweed cloth boards with brown cloth spine, black lettering on spine. No bumping or wear. Binding is tight and square, hinges are sound - no cracking. Pages and edges are clean with clean endpapers - no names, writing or marks. 224 pages. Clean jacket is not price clipped (3.00 on front inside flap), has piece missing at top left of rear panel edge (approx. 1-1/2" x 2"), some short closed edge tears and additional small edge chips; enclosed in new archival quality removable mylar cover. A film was adapted from this novel by John Huston and John Lee Mahin (1957) starring Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr. During World War II, an American marine and an Irish nun form an unlikely friendship after being stranded on a Japanese-occupied South Pacific island. They find comfort in one another as the two hope for a rescue..
