About This Item

[London:] Printed for Private Circulation,, [1922]. First edition, signed limited issue, number 99 of 100 signed copies, this one of 50 copies for private circulation; numbers 1 to 50 were for sale. The copies for private circulation were issued in patterned boards, with a more intimate photographic portrait as the frontispiece (the for-sale copies used a reproduction of Strang's famous portrait). Two variants of the patterned boards are noted in Cross & Ravenscroft-Hulme, with no priority. This copy has the diagonal rows of flowers with brown petals on a yellow background, as opposed to the straight rows of daisy-type flowers in blue and orange on a cream background. Tall octavo. Original white cloth-backed floral patterned paper boards, spine label lettered in black, edges untrimmed. Photographic portrait frontispiece by Swaine, with tissue guard. Newspaper clipping of author's obituary loosely inserted. Covers toned, extending a little to contents, spine ends bumped, extremities occasionally worn, offsetting to endpapers, occasional foxing to contents. A very good, clean copy, binding firm and square. Cross & Ravenscroft-Hulme A.7b.
