About This Item

Munich, Cornelius Leysser, 1630. With engraved pictorial title, and 5 full-page emblematic engravings. (12) leaves, 724 pp., (1) leaf. 12mo. Contemporary vellum (ties lacking). Munich, Cornelius Leysser, 1630. "This work (here present in its 4th edition), which deals with the problem of the freedom of the will, is perhaps Drexel's most important work" (Faber du Faur 959). Nice coy of an emblem book illustrating the conformity of the human will with the divine. Treats the topic of Christian belief, and at the same time is a revealing statement of Drexel's own belief.- Old ms. exlibris on title-page and small library stamp on first text leaf. - VD17 1:074963H; Dünnhaupt (2nd ed.), p. 1392, 11.6.; Pörnbacher, Drexel, p. 176.
