Garden City, NY: Doubleday & Company, 1962. Very Good/Very Good. Garden City, NY: Doubleday & Company, 1962. First Edition. Octavo; publisher's cloth-backed boards in teal pictorial dust jacket; [16],341pp. Light wear to jacket and board extremities, rear jacket panel a bit dust-soiled, ownership ex libris to front pastedown, else Very Good and sound. Inscribed and signed to notable personal relations genius Earl Newsom on front free endpaper: "For Earl Newsom - who took me in - with thanks! H. Allen Smith." American journalist-cum-humorist H. Allen Smith's memoirs of childhood and early adulthood, concluding with his brief tenure writing copy for Newsom's as-yet tiny PR firm, where he toiled at convincing the American public to drink tea on behalf of the Tea Bureau, and choose wall paper over paint on behalf of the Wallpaper Institute. Newsom himself is described here as "an intelligent and pleasant boss" (p. 288).
