Hard cover, 24 cm, 392 pp. Discusses important historical documents like the patriarchal document with the decision of the Patriarch of Constantinople Ioasaf (1555-1565) to award the title of "King" to the tsar Ivan the Terrible (1534-1584), in 1561, is today considered as a false one; however, it shows the need for recognition of imperial power in Russia by the Patriarch of Constantinople. As in Byzantium, the Patriarch had to stand at the side of the Russian King. And this took place in 1593, with a synodical decision of the Ecumenical Patriarchate; or like documents concerning Patriarch Nicon of Moscow (1652-1658) who was accused for philhellenism ! The Russians asked in 1666 his conviction from the Greek ecclesiastical hierarchy (the Patriarch of Alexandria Paisius [1657-1678] and the Patriarch of Antioch Macarius III [ 1647-1685]) ! A little later we find Peter the Great (1682-1725) to send a letter to the Ecumenical Patriarch Jeremiah III (1716-1726, 1732-1733) to ask him to bless (read "to approve") the russian system of caesaropapism.
