About This Item

Columbia University Press, 1962. 224pp. 4 black and white illustrations, with notes, appendix and index. Red cloth with gilt lettering. "This is primarily a study of seven English plays . It is also a study of a particular kind of hero, once popular, now less so and often misunderstood. Before he appeared on the stage he was celebrated in epic, and his most recent avatars are probably to be found in nineteenth-century fiction. Though I do not attempt a history of the type, a continuous concern with this kind of hero unites the discussions of individual plays. The seven plays are Marlowe's Tamburlaine, Chapman's Bussy D'Ambois, Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra and Coriolanus, and Dryden's The Conquest of Grenada, Aureng-Zebe and All for Love." Pages are clean (no writing, underlining, or highlighting). Binding is tight with no cracks or breaks. Board edges have minor shelf wear. Unclipped DJ is lightly sunned/soiled/scuffed with some edgewear (light creasing, rubbing of corners). Looks nice in protective mylar covering. This is not a remainder or ex-library. Nice copy.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good +/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Mylared.
