Moss green ribbed cloth boards with gold and red decorative lettering on covers of each book, gold lettering on spine. Slightest surface wear to spine corners, no fraying. Bindings are tight and square, hinges are sound - no cracking. Pages and edges are clean, with gilt upper text block page edges. Previous owner name penned lavishly on front free endpaper of each volume - no other marks. With illustations by H. C. Christy, A. I. Keller, and others, including lovely frontispieces with clean tissue guards. Volume 1 - 239 pages; Volume 2 - 274 pages. A lovely two volume set you will be proud to own. Includes heroines from Emile Bronte's works, Hawthorne's, Jane Austen's, Dickens and more. Beautiful illustrations throughout..
