About This Item

Blond & Briggs Ltd, London and Colchester, 1977. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. Inscribed by Author(s). 1st Edition. First Edition (first printing). A presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the title page: "For John Bird in friendship. Michael Wishart 19.x.1979" and with the recipients neat inkstamped details to the half-title and title page. 8vo. 208pp. Two-tone cloth lettered in black at the spine. Illustrated with thirty-three black and white photographs and reproductions. One corner of the upper board bumped resulting in a short tear to the cloth, and with just a touch of bruising to the spine ends. A very crisp copy in non-price-clipped dust wrapper, with a touch of corresponding wear to the spine panel ends and a single short closed tear. The author's memoir, which caused a scandal upon publication due to the depiction of the bohemian lifestyles of Wishart and his friends Lucian Freud and Francis Bacon. Curiously uncommon, and much more so with his signature (the recipient of the inscription was the noted biographer of composer Percy Grainger)..
