About This Item

New York: Pocket Books, Inc, 1965. First Paperbk Printing. fair to good. Pocket paperbk, 344, wraps, text has darkened, discoloration inside covers, some soiling to covers, some wear to cover edges. Claude Eatherly, the subject of this book, had trained with the 509th Composite Group. His plane made a simulated bomb run over Hiroshima, testing visibility, then radioed an all-clear message to the Enola Gay, which dropped the first atomic bomb. Since the war Eatherly was almost constantly under psychiatric care, and was said to be suffering from guilt because of his part in the bombing of Hiroshima. He was adopted by Ban-the-Bomb groups, and has been called the "American Dreyfus. " Huie has attempted to write an objective account of Eatherly.
