About This Item

Printed By the Assigns of John Bill Deceas'd: And By Henry Hills and Thomas Newcomb, 1685. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good-/No Jacket. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Having compared the first item to Wing listing J225 all seems correct, it seems to have previously been attributed as C3166 which is now a cancelled listing. This is a modern hardcover added to the original 2 pamphlets texts. Boards measure 11 1/2 x 7 1/2". Given the brevity of the 2 pamphlets bound together here, I will detail the pages/collation. The items have 6 leaves, beginning , title page, verso blank, 1st page text numbered 3 collation code A2, pages numbered 4-5-6-7, 7 verso blank. This is followed by another pamphlet (Wing J186 this number and erasure are evident on it's title page, pencil, ) "His Majesties Gracious Declaration To All His Loving Subjects For Liberty of Conscience" page 1 collation 'A' and numbering 4 pages. Based on this I presume the overall collation to be Folio. Publication statement last page "By His Majesties Special Command" "London, Printed By Charles Bill, Henry Hills, and Thomas Newcomb Printers To The Kings Most Excellent Majesty. 1687. The title pages have sootiness and creasing to a surprising degree and the other pages too but less so. Will shoot title page for the books listing. The black boards are not prisitine, a bit of shading has occurred, as well as tip abrasion. The previous owner has penciled his customary notes at the top of the first, replaced endsheet, catalog designations and the following statement "This is probably James II's first speech to parliament. Hume gives the date of that speech as May 19, 1685, but quotes from this text." Foto will follow shortly.
