About This Item

Melbourne: Melbourne University Press, 1988. 1st ed.. Hardback octavo, dustjacket, good condition (in good dustjacket), frontispiece, edges little foxed, pages lightly toned, reverse side jacket lightly foxed (spine slightly faded), endpapers lightly foxed, owner’s written name free flyleaf. 238 pp. This is the story of a lad who reached manhood at the time of Australia's own growing up - in the years of the 1920s, after World War 1. He lived in the New England region of New South Wales. He learned to ride, to muster, and to handle the daily demands of life on a pastoral property. Maslyn Williams was born in England but brought up mainly on sheep and cattle properties in Australia. His life has been divided between the worlds of professional writing, film-making, music and rural pursuits. He was a correspondent during the 1939-45 war and subsequently travelled widely in North America, Asia, the Pacific and Europe. The main purpose is to give readers pleasure; to remind people of 'the quiet joys’. (Owner name is J. M. Eldershaw, the novelist.).
