About This Item
London: John Bodger, 1790. Joseph Collyer. Etching with aquatint. 18 1/2 x 27 1/2 inches.

Lovely panorama of the Prince of Wales exercising his horses in Newmarket. The town is in the English county of Suffolk, approximately 65 miles north of London. It is considered the birthplace and global center of thoroughbred horse racing. The figures were engraved by Joseph Collyer, after Burney. Proofs & prints in colors of J. Bodger & Mr. Weatherby. Some foxing, toning and chips to right margin, with a collection stamp in lower right corner but otherwise in good condition. Edward Francis Burney (1760 - 1848), was and English artist known for his rococo style and fine draughtsmanship. This is a good example of his work.
