Color frontis. with tissue guard. With approximately 500 illustrations. Marbled endpapers. Bound in three-quarter bottle green morocco over marbled boards, gilt lettering and raised bands on spine. Original wrappers bound in. Spine faded to green-brown, with ends chipped; light foxing to preliminaries; small armorial bookplate on the front pastedown. First French edition, published a year after the first printing, a year earlier, in Brussels. A magnificent volume in solid, presentable condition. COLAS, 3020; HILER p. 881.
