Second augented edition (first published in 1917 and reissued again in 1927), 8vo, pp. 796, [2]; illustrations in the text, some full-page; bookplate and ownership signature of George Sarton, 1923; oiginal printed wrappers bound in contemporary red cloth, leather label (slightly chipped) on spine; very good. In French with Chinese characters for names. Thirty years of research carried out on site by the Jesuit Léon Wieger (1856-1933) on the history of religious beliefs and philosophical opinions in China. George Sarton (1884-1956) was a Belgian-American chemist and historian. He is considered the founder of the discipline of the history of science as an independent field of study.
