Nice condition, antique George Washington biography, "HISTOIRE DE WASHINGTON" ("History of Washington") - et de la Fondation de la Republique des Etats-Unis ("and the Founding of the United States") by Cornelis de Witt. 1855; Didier, Libraire-Editeur; Paris. This edition is written entirely in French. The book features an engraved frontispiece portrait of George Washington, a fold-out "Map of the United States in 1785" in color, and a ribbon page marker. At the front of the book is a section titled "Washington ~ Etude Historique" ("Historical Study of Washington") by Francois Guizot. Nicely bound in half-leather with marbled covers, marbled end papers, a ribbon page marker, and four raised bands on the spine. There is a table of contents at the back. Complete in one volume.
Condition:
Shelf wear to the edges of the boards and corners. Rubbing to the leather at the top-left corner of the front cover, and along the edges of the spine. There is a 1" tear at the top-left edge of the spine where it meets the back cover. Bright gilt lettering on the spine. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Nice interior - the pages are lightly age-toned, but clean with only some mild foxing here and there to some random pages. The fold-out map at the back is firmly attached and is in nice condition with no tears. Overall the book is in Very Good condition.
