In Venetia: Appresso Paulo Vgolino, 1592. [First edition]. Full Vellum. Very Good+. [First edition]. Full Vellum. Translation to English: History of Italy...divided into twenty books. To the most illustrious Mr. Cosimo Medici, Duke of Florence and Siena. For Tomaso Porcacchi da Castiglione Arretino With a Judgment made by the same to discover all the beauties of this Historia. Added the Life of the Author by M. Remigio Fiorentino. With Marginalia. Francesco Guicciardini (1483-1540) Diplomat and historian best known for his History of Italy, a major work of the early modern period.
It appears the previous owner or scholar has transcribed by hand the lacking printed copy. Some discoloration and spotting, stress to head and cap, toning, evidence of staining, otherwise tight, bright and unmarred. Contemporary full vellum with handwritten spine title, tp vignette, ownership inscription on tp verso 23 cm. 488 [through 401pp present] with unnumbered manuscript pages in the rear. Two column printed otherwise.. In Italian.
