VOLUME 1 ONLY OF 2, SECOND ISSUE 1770. Volume 1 covers the "Spanish Explorers", the missing Volume 2 the "Dutch explorers". 4to, approximately 245 x 200 mm, 9½ x 8 inches, 3 folding maps, the frontispiece map being, Map of the World, on a new projection, titled "The Great Pacific Ocean", plus 1 plate of Teepye Lobsters, pages: [4 of 6], LACKS half-title, [vii]-xxx, [2]; [1]-21, [3], [1]-24; [1]-204, [4] - errata, last page blank, Contents pages i-ii LACKING and should follow page xxx; the Monthly Review follows page xxx in our copy, (title page and Dedication pages dated 1770, Preface and Introduction dated 1769, Monthly Review for May dated 1769 and a chapter in the book called Advertisement dated Sept.5.1769), rebacked in modern calf, old gilt lettered morocco label from previous binding, marbled boards and endpapers, engraved heraldic bookplate of Charles Pierrepont on first pastedown. The printed "Volume One" on title page has been removed at sometime and the small hole repaired with old paper, small neat repair to the inner margin of title page, hardly noticeable, foxing affecting the first map and title page and following 2 leaves, pale foxing affecting the last 14 leaves, occasional small black spot to text and occasional light foxing to a few margins, small repair to inner margin on the blank side of 1 map, otherwise a very good clean copy.
