Chicago: The Encyclopedia Britannica, 1976. This handsome, complete 20-volume set is in Fine condition. Most volumes appear to be unread. It also includes an oversized Near-Fine paperback, Introduction. This Introduction volume also contains the Contents of all 20 volumes and an Index of Authors and Sources. The Encyclopedia Britannica published this edition in 1976, just in time for America's Bicentennial celebration. Each book is bound in blue leatherette with "The Annals of America" blindstamped on the front panel, with gilt titles and borders on the spine (click on photo). The Introduction makes clear that this set is composed of a documentary rather than a narrative history. Hardcover navy blue cloth with gilt, no dust jacket as issued. A historical account of the Sioux uprising of 1862-3 in southern Minnesota and nearby Dakota Territory. Published as part of the Lakeside Press Centennial series of the Civil War. The author was a teacher at a mission school in a Sioux village. The book was originally published in 1863.
