About This Item
Melbourne: Victorian Government Printing Office, 1983. Hardback small quarto, dustjacket, very good condition (in very good dustjacket), black & white text-photos, maps, illustrated endpapers, minor edgewear jacket (spine little faded, small piece laminated coating missing base spine), minor scuffing. Heavy, and extra postage may be requested to destinations outside Australia. 803 pp. Continues the fully-documented story of relations between Aborigines and Europeans in the years when permanent government was being established in Port Phillip. This Volume 2B depicts the Government's policy of resolving the problem by appointing a Protector of Aborigines with four assistant Protectors. Their duty was to maintain constant contact with the tribes, and to help in imposing a civilized system of law and order upon Aboriginals and whites alike. This would be suitable for students or anyone interested in Australian history. A combined index to volumes 2A and 2B appears in this volume. Edited by Michael Cannon.
